We are a mobile speech pathology service, offering high quality speech and language assessment and intervention services in the south-eastern suburbs of Sydney. We provide mobile services to your home or your child's educational setting.

Our goal is to help our clients thrive in their communication skills, one step at a time, by supporting them in their most natural and comfortable environment.

We are dedicated to offering a family-centred, functional and neuroaffirming approach to intervention, tailoring therapy to meet the individual needs of each client and their family. We provide services to children, teenagers and young adults with communication difficulties.

Meet Kristina

Kristina Vulkanovski B.AppSc(SpPath), CPSP, MSPA

Hello! I am Kristina, the owner of Speech Steps Therapy and a Certified Practising Speech Pathologist. I graduated with a Bachelor of Applied Science (Speech Pathology) from the University of Sydney in 2014 and I am a Certified Practicing Speech Pathologist (CPSP).

I am a dedicated clinician who is passionate about supporting clients with their communication skills. I have developed experience in supporting children, teenagers and young adults with diverse communication needs and diagnoses such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Developmental Language Disorder, Global Developmental Delay and Intellectual Disability. My clinical experience expands a range of clinical areas including speech and language disorders, disability, social communication skills and literacy skills. I have a special interest in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) assessment and implementation, with knowledge and experience in using a range of AAC strategies. I believe that every child is unique with their own learning and communication style. I am passionate in providing a collaborate approach to intervention, where families feel confident and supported in the communication journey.

I am a lifelong learner and am committed to ongoing professional development, keeping up to date with ongoing clinical research. I have completed certifications and training in various clinical areas including:

  • Training and experience in a range of high-tech AAC software including TD Snap, LAMP Words for Life, Unity, Proloquo/Proloquo2go, and Grid-3. I have also developed training in supporting various access methods for AAC including touch, switch access and eye gaze.

Outside of work, I enjoy pilates, photography and spending time outdoors with family and friends, whether that be a hike at the local national park or trying out new cafes and restaurants.

Our Services

We provide speech pathology services for a range of communication difficulties including:

Receptive Language (understanding language)

We support clients who present with difficulties in understanding and comprehending language including following directions, understanding and answering questions, building vocabulary skills and understanding basic concepts. It covers comprehension for visual, spoken and written information.

Expressive Language (using language)

We support clients who present with difficulties in using language to express themselves clearly. This includes developing their expressive vocabulary skills, sentence structure, grammar, narrative/story telling and written expression.

Speech Sound Disorders

We support clients with their speech sound development that make up spoken language. This includes difficulties relating to articulation, phonology and overall speech clarity.

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)

We support augmentative and alternative communication. Whether that's using verbal words, pictures, signs, communication boards, typing/writing or an electronic device, we believe that every person has a right to communicate in their own way. We support assessment and intervention for AAC, specifically with the prescription of robust, high-tech AAC solutions.

Play and Social Skills

We can support the development of social communication skills needed to interact and engage with people and for building social relationships. Therapy intervention can target areas such as conversational skills, understanding non-verbal language and interpreting social cues, flexible thinking, perspective-taking and developing group work skills.

For young children, we can support their ability to learn how to play, take turns and connect with others in a shared play experience.

Literacy Skills

We provide support to learn to read, spell and write effectively. Intervention for literacy skills include support with phonological awareness skills (essential foundation skills required to develop reading and spelling skills, decoding & spelling skills for functional literacy tasks, reading comprehension skills and written expression skills.

No, you don't need a referral to see a Speech Pathologist. Please reach out to us and we will take the time to discuss your concerns, answer any questions and see if we are the right fit for you and your family.

Every client's communication journey is different. The length of therapy will depend on the communication needs, goals and progress. Your Speech Pathologist will discuss goals and a plan for intervention following an assessment.

We are registered with Medicare and all major private health funds and accept referrals under the Chronic Disease Management Plan (CDMP) from your GP. Please contact your GP provider to see if you are eligible for this.

We also accept self-managed and plan managed NDIS participants with approved funding for speech pathology services.

We are based in the south-eastern region of Sydney, NSW. We currently service the following suburbs in Sydney:

Brighton-Le-Sands, Rockdale, Banksia, Arncliffe, Kyeemagh, Monterey, Ramsgate, Sans Souci, Banksia, Carlton, Kogarah Bay, Beverley Park, Bexley, Hurstville, Penshurst, Mortdale, Oatley and Blakehurst.
